Generally the software knob should be in the 2o'clock position. You need to use BOTH outputs of the same type e. While you won't necessarily need Balanced Output in a basic home studio setup, it is of course possible to solve the connection issue with adapter cables - but further causing and noise susceptibility in the process.

In this screenshot, I have dropped down the options for the device which show my S4 and the Macbook's Built-in sound card in the Audio Setup Configuration. This is extremely similar to the common 3. I'll touch on this more below when I describe the outputs in more detail. Headphone Connection This is as simple and as obvious as it seems. If you have the common 3. S4 Audio Routing. Last edited: Mar 29, Keeping out of the Red One of the most important audio setup components is to ensure that you keep each element from clipping or distorting, and thus keeping out of the red is critical.

If you see any red, reduce the channel gain to bring it just under or only occasionally touching the red zone. Also look at the Traktor Main level to ensure it isn't red and clipping.

Orange is ok and indicates you have a good input level but may be near to clipping if you push too hard. Your First Gig The situation is going to vary dramatically! If this is an organised gig, talk to someone looking after the DJ Booth and ask them what they want you to connect to.

They will already be using a mixer and distribution system of their own, and will probably expect you to hook into their mixer, often by RCA. For a simple two speaker external backyard-style gig, you're like to have only the two speakers and no monitor. One Extra Step - Separate Booth and House Speakers If you have a large room, or your first performance, you might find yourself connecting everything up and more than you're used to.

This same method can be used in your home studio if you have desktop monitor speakers and a much larger amplifier and many speakers in the room. Last edited: Mar 28, Messages: 3, Nice work putting all this together!

You might want to mention that the headphone output level is a little lower when running on USB power without the AC adapter.

There's also the issue of ground loop interference which is quite common and easily fixable, and something about output latency might be helpful? Never hurts to remind people to stay out of the red too. Messages: AbebeJan 6, Messages: 6, Very nice post. Think I will make it a sticky. Not that long ago, it was somewhat far-fetched to expect a DJ to understand custom midi-mapping, let alone do any.

These days, with the controller market expanding rapidly, most DJs are aware of the concept and have dabbled with a custom mapping here or there. You probably have discovered that although it is easy to map a button to anything in Traktor, it is a bit more challenging to make the button light up in a meaningful way.

This involves understanding the second, lesser-known side of midi-mapping β€” sending midi OUT messages from the computer to your controller. This is usually the same note that the button sends out, so map it to something or use a midi-monitor software like midi-pipe. Getting buttons to light up in interesting and more creative ways, such as using multiple colors to display various states, is a powerful trick you need to know.

Despite the name, this is Traktors side of the equation. The thing to remember is that each value directly relates to a state for that function; some of them are obvious and some will relate to a drop down menu on the GUI in exactly the same order. One complex example would be FX: you can choose a particular effect by selecting the number corresponding to where that effect sits in the group.

Without getting too complicated, some controllers have more than the normal two states. The APC40 has seven: off, and then green, red and orange, in both solid and flashing states. So if you wanted an LED to be solid green for on and flashing green for off, the min would be 1 flashing and the max would be 2 solid. This works the same as when mapping an input. But just to consolidate all this information, here are some examples.

The modifier section works exactly the same for standard mappings. To learn more about this subject check out our article on modifiers! APC40 cues. This example is based on the one modifier being used to switch between two functions, in which one mode is active when the modifier is off and the other when the modifier is on. As you can only map two conditions on an input I have modifiers 2 and 5 linked to my jog modes, both with ranges of 0β€”2.

Hopefully this has helped to shed some, er… light on how to map an LED, and has made things a bit clearer for you. Traktor Pro 3. By BradCee On May 30, Intro by Ean Golden Not that long ago, it was somewhat far-fetched to expect a DJ to understand custom midi-mapping, let alone do any.

Controller Range Despite the name, this is Traktors side of the equation.First of all, thanks a lot for an exceptionally good website.

Now to my problem. I have a pair of mackie s active speakers and when I run my Traktor through those the sound comes out just fine. However, I been playing a few times at a club which already has an existing booth with mixers and the whole lot.

I figured I would not have to fiddle around too much with the settings if I did it that way. What ends up happening though is that the signal is way way way too low. Even with my main and channels at max I still need to jack up the gain and the volume on the house mixer to get anywhere near the sound levels that the CDJ puts out. Needless to say, the end result is poor sound quality which sounds distorted.

I read about Output Boosters which plugs into the phono input but surely the signal from the S2 must be strong enough?! Try adjusting it within the software, rather than on the actual controller. I keep the virtual main at 0db as has been adviced and the gain knobs are typically around 0db as well or slightly above depending on the autogain. Sorry, to be clear, what i meant was that I already have the virtual main at 0db and the gains at normal leves.

The signal has not improved. Is there a volume control on your S2 as well? I have an S4 and the volume control on it runs independent of Traktor so I can set what ever I want for my main and gains and then boost that using that volume knob.

Guys, thanks a lot for your help. I need to check all my settings at home again tonight as when I installed version 2. So played again last night and signal still comes out weak. So I guess it has to be something to do with my software? Or would the computer sound card etc impact anything? My output routing is normal btw, just the mains and the monitors. When you say disable the Dual Core Processor, exactly how would that help?

Have you turned off the additional headroom in preferences? I have this off but my master set to db which gives me the headroom i need and still be able to crank things up.Buttons will light up when pressed, resulting in better visibility to users. Yes, it is in the middle on both the S2 and the Traktor software. What's odd is that even when I do not connect the S2 to my laptop, there is no sound from anywhere. I've closed ALL other programs, so only Traktor is running.
